THE BLESSED COLORFULNESS OF THE WORLD

You are cordially invited to the book presentation at the Haus der Allgemeine Lesegesellschaft , Münsterplatz 8. The latest book, which sheds light on the parallels in the lives of Hermann Hesse and Hermann Gundert, will be personally presented by the author Siegfried Pick at the 2024 general meeting in Basel.

"HGG meets Basel"

This year Sophie and Dietmar Hüglin have organized our general meeting to take place at the Basel Mission. In addition to the tour of the Basel Mission archives, the meeting will include the book launch of "The Blessed Colorfulness of the World", a travel report to northern India, an exclusive city tour with Dietmar Hüglin as well as a visit to the Basel Paper Mill, St. Alban-Tal 37, 4052 Basel.

Obituary, December 2023
After a fulfilled life , our founder Dr. Albrecht Frenz, pastor and Indologist, died at the age of 86 on December 21, 2023 surrounded by his family. Researching the life and work of Hesse's grandfather Hermann Gundert had been his passion throughout his life. Together with his wife Gertraud, he wrote numerous books on the subject. Albrecht Frenz will be remembered as a bridge builder between India and Europe, between cultures, religions, man and woman, young and old.

OPENING OF THE GUNDERT CHAIR
October 2015
Together with the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University in Tirur, the University of Tübingen has opened a "Gundert Chair" in honor of Hermann Gundert. Every semester, an Indian visiting professor from Kerala holds courses in the Malayalam language as well as on the literature, history and culture of Kerala. The first chair holder, Prof. Dr. Scaria Zacharia, published numerous works on Hermann Gundert. An important project of the cooperation between the universities mentioned is the digitization of Gundert's writings and works, which are to be made accessible to all users via the Internet.

Short film on the occasion of Hermann Gundert's 200th birthday
This short film highlights the special relationship between the two Hermans: Gundert and Hesse. It becomes particularly clear in Hermann Hesse's description of his grandfather's reaction to his escape from the seminar in Maulbronn.

The trialogical understanding of Gundert's work makes it possible to understand the life of this Indian German or German Indian as a unit. Gundert knew how to shape and hold together both worlds - the Indian and the German - by believing in the one God from the inside out.

Gundert year 2014
The 200th anniversary of Hermann Gundert's birthday in 2014 was the occasion for a large number of events, including the city of Calw, the Hermann Hesse Museum and the Hermann Gundert Society.
